Fold 5.1 to LtRt with AudioSuite! (faster than realtime)

Sure would be nice to be able to fold a 5.1 comp stem to LtRt faster than a real-time print, wouldn’t it?  There are several LtRt-encoder plugins that let you insert them on your 5.1 comp stem audio track, then bus it to a stereo audio track and print down.  But that goes at real-time.  The Neyrinck SoundCode Stereo LtRt plugin, on the other hand, lets you process the LtRt fold as AudioSuite!

Typically when creating an LtRt from a 5.1 comp stem, we insert a plugin on the 5.1 track and then record down (print) the LtRt to a stereo track.  That can still be done with Neyrinck’s SoundCode LtRt plugin, but it can also be used as AudioSuite.  Just select the 5.1 stem, instantiate the plugin, pick your fold-down algorithm (I recommend Dolby Pro Logic II) and process it!

The downside to this is that it creates a new 5.1 region that has 4 MOS channels (C, Ls, Rs, and LFE) and places the LtRt on the L and R channels.  Nevertheless, you’re still getting a Dolby Pro Logic II-encoded LtRt dramatically faster than real-time.  This can be a real life-saver!  Go check it out.
